I'm playing a .25/.50 NL cash game at UB today when this hand came down between two other players that both had $50 in front of them.
Player A raises the pot from .50 to $2 and then player B re-raises the pot from $2 to $5. Everybody folds and gets out of the way of these two players and player A re-raises it from $5 to $8.
Player B thinks about it for a while and he folds his cards face up, JJ. Player A then shows his cards and shows AA.
Everybody at the table tell player B that it was a great fold and player B even pats himself on the back for such a great fold.
Personally I didn't like the fold. So you put your opponet on AA, why not call the $3 re-raise and try and flop the set? At this point the pot has built to $13.75 and it's going to cost you $3 more to see the flop. You are getting almost 4 to 1 for your $3 call and I'd think the implied odds of cracking the Aces would make this call worth it.
Definately a bad fold. Like you said, he's already invested that much into the pot..and yes your opponent could have AA KK or QQ. But he could easy have AK KQ or something like that. Absolutely have to at least see the flop there when uve put that much money into the pot...just my opinion.

I think even if player B knew for a fact that player A has Aces you have to call that $3 bet here. If your hand doesn't improve on the flop then make your great lay down and pat yourself on the back.
You see the re-raise by Player A was a mistake. He let his opponent know what he had (would be a big hand such as AA, KK, AK, AQ, or QQ). So player B should have been calling for $3. Think about the pot odds and implied odds. 2/47 (4.2% chance of hitting). The $ odds... 3/17 So he is getting about $5 for every $1 he puts in. So in theory it is 'not worth it'. But if play B hit's, then he will almost certainly get the other players entire stack... So you can assume the pot would be about $100-110. So he is paying $3/100. Which beats the 2/47.
Have to make the call here in my opinion, like Missed The Flop said, even if I was playing the cards face up at this point I call the $3 to see what happens.
To me if he had enough decipline to lay that down pre-flop, he would have enough to lay it down post flop to a big bet on a rag flop.
I don't agree it was a mistake to re-raise with the AA, you get the must money in you can with the best hand BUT I would have maybe smoothed call the second raise and hoped for that rag flop!
Just my opinion.
