Topic: What is your freeroll strategy? (Read 6591 times)

I have played at a lot of sites and my strategy really depends on how many people are in the freeroll. If it's a smaller freeroll with less than 1000 people or so, then I'll slow play until i get the cards; however, if there are 10,000 then I may be more inclined to go all-in quickly to build up the chips and be the bully.
What do you all do?

Being the bully is very effective in a freeroll. But i think that at the start a lot of people have the same idea as you. So it is a good idea to wait til you get a premium hand and then try to get some all-ins and double/treble quickly.
I always just try to stay above average stack... once things start to tighten up as the game goes on then I start to get more aggressive.

I have a similar strategy to you Bart..take it easy at the start, try and catch a premium hand and collect as much chips as possible. Then start playing more aggressive as I progress.

I am very aggressive and hope to triple up by the first break.
Why?
I am going to be brutally honest here, it's a freeroll and there is another getting ready to start any minute somewhere. I try to hit it big. Most don't pay well till top 3 so give it a good try.

The freeroll on online poker sites is a beast in and of itself. In some ways, it’s not even poker, in the strictest sense. It can be more like hitting the lottery (more so than winning the World Series of Poker’s main event).
But in playing freerolls on different sites over the past year, I’ve definitely learned a few things. And maybe a few of the lessons I’ve learned can help you, so that you’re not wasting your time next time you sign up for a freeroll with thousands of people in it.
Do I cash these all the time? No. Have I cashed them? Yes. I regularly play freerolls on UltimateBet, Absolute Poker, BodogPoker and Full Tilt. Sometimes I play PokerStars freerolls, but not usually (more on that later).
